A New Cast Finding Its Rhythm
(from “Une nouvelle distribution en rodage,” by Florent Coudeyrat – ConcertoNet)
The Opéra national du Rhin continues to bring lyrical art to new audiences through its Opéra volant initiative — productions designed to travel beyond the traditional circuit of Strasbourg, Mulhouse, and Colmar. One of these projects, the revival of Harvey Schmidt’s musical The Fantasticks, premiered this season at the splendid Théâtre municipal de Colmar, a perfect setting for the chamber intimacy of this Broadway classic.
Created in 1960 and adapted into French by Alain Perroux, The Fantasticks is famous for its simplicity and enduring charm. Under the direction of Myriam Marzouki, the production embraces a refined 1960s aesthetic, combining elegance with subtle theatricality. The delicate choreography by Christine vom Scheidt and the lighting design by Emmanuel Valette enhance the sense of nostalgia and theatrical grace that pervades the show.
And, in a particularly striking performance, Eduard Ferenczi Gurban stood out as El Gallo, the enigmatic narrator and master of ceremonies.
We love the imposing presence of Eduard Ferenczi Gurban, who impresses as the master of ceremonies.
With his commanding stage presence and charismatic phrasing, Eduard embodies the dual nature of the character — both storyteller and manipulator, inviting the audience into the tale while maintaining an air of mystery. His dramatic energy and elegance leave a memorable mark on the evening, anchoring the production with depth and sophistication.
